Key Figure in Establishing the Emergency System for Cardiovascular Diseases at Samsung Changwon Hospital
Sungkyunkwan University Samsung Changwon Hospital announced on the 7th that Professor Oh Juhyun (age 59) has been appointed as the new director and will assume the position as the 19th director starting February 1.
Professor Oh, appointed as the new director of Samsung Changwon Hospital, graduated from Kyungpook National University School of Medicine in 1990 and earned his master's and doctoral degrees from the same graduate school. Since 2000, he has worked in the Department of Cardiology at Samsung Changwon Hospital and has dedicated himself to training medical professionals as a full-time professor at Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine.
Professor Oh is an authority in ischemic heart diseases such as myocardial infarction and angina. He has held key positions including Director of the Cardiovascular Center at Samsung Changwon Hospital, Head of Planning, Director of the Regional Emergency Medical Center, and Deputy Director of Medical Affairs. He has also served as president of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Cardiology Society, earning recognition for his outstanding leadership and drive.
Through this appointment, Samsung Changwon Hospital plans to faithfully fulfill its role as the central hospital in the medical delivery system for severe diseases and emergency medical care as the only tertiary general hospital in Changwon City. It will also accelerate efforts to strengthen education and research as an affiliated hospital of Sungkyunkwan University.
Professor Oh was the key figure in elevating Samsung Changwon Hospital’s emergency treatment system for severe cardiovascular diseases to the highest domestic level. He significantly reduced the door-to-balloon time?the time from emergency room arrival to vascular reopening for acute myocardial infarction patients?beyond the standards recommended by the American College of Cardiology. In recognition of this achievement, he received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare in 2009 for contributions to emergency medical services. Since then, he has maintained the number of acute myocardial infarction treatments within the top 10 nationwide and established an ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) treatment team, focusing on improving survival rates for severe cardiovascular patients accompanied by cardiogenic shock.
Professor Oh stated, “I will work together with all staff members to ensure that Samsung Changwon Hospital, as an affiliated hospital of Sungkyunkwan University, provides medical services at the level of the metropolitan area and becomes a leading hospital guiding the regional medical community.”
