Professor Lee Jung-gu: "Yoon Ignores Legal Order When Disadvantageous... In Which Country Did He Study Law?"

"Which country did you study law in?"
"The harsh price of electing the wrong president"

President Yoon Suk-yeol has refused to comply with the execution of an arrest warrant, prompting Professor Emeritus Lee Joon-gu of Seoul National University's Department of Economics to lament, "The state of the country has become a mess."

On the 5th, Professor Lee posted an article titled "Is This a Country?" on his personal website. He opened by saying, "When the way the country is run feels completely wrong, we sarcastically say, 'Is this a country?' Watching the incident that occurred yesterday in Hannam-dong, that phrase suddenly came to mind. Because of one incompetent president, the state of the country has become so chaotic that words fail to describe it."

He continued, "Wasn't President Yoon always someone who habitually preached 'law and order'? Someone who would strike down his political opponents with the iron fist of the law, leaving not even a speck of dust untouched? He acted as if he were the incarnation of the law itself, but now that the law might be applied unfavorably to him, he dismisses it as if it means nothing to him," he harshly criticized. He added, "This is a warrant formally issued by the court. Is there even the slightest reason to reject it by claiming it is illegal? I don't know where he studied law or how he can dare to make such ignorant remarks after having served as a prosecutor for so long."

Professor Lee said, "If he believes he is innocent, shouldn't he just walk into the investigative agency on his own and openly state his position? The president, who should be leading the way in upholding law and order, treats the law that everyone else follows like a discarded object," he pointed out. Furthermore, he criticized, "How can the National Security Office, a state agency, interfere with the lawful execution of a warrant by another state agency responsible for maintaining law and order? I heard that the National Security Office personnel were armed with personal firearms yesterday. Are you saying they were prepared to engage in a shootout with the investigators who came to execute the warrant in an urgent situation?"

He also said, "Because of the behavior of someone stubbornly clinging to the position of president, society is deteriorating day by day. Blinded by greed to hold onto power, he has thrown away conscience, dignity, common sense, and patriotism like a discarded object," he stated. In conclusion, he said, "The best outcome we can hope for is a swift decision to approve impeachment and permanently remove him. I am deeply worried about how much more our country will deteriorate while time is being wasted. I never imagined that the cost of electing one president wrong would be this severe."
