Daejeon Daedeok-gu announced on the 7th that starting this month, it will provide childcare subsidies to foreign children attending daycare centers in the district.

Currently, foreign children aged 3 to 5 receive the same childcare subsidies as Korean children if they attend kindergarten, but are not eligible for subsidies when attending daycare centers.

The district is promoting childcare subsidy support for foreign children to address the childcare imbalance between Korean and foreign children, as well as between daycare and kindergarten children, and to create a discrimination-free and equal childcare environment.

Among the approximately 50 foreign children currently residing in the area, the district plans to provide a monthly childcare subsidy of 100,000 won to foreign children aged 0 to 5 who have registered their residence and lived in Daedeok-gu for more than 90 days and are attending daycare centers in Daedeok-gu.

The childcare subsidy will be provided through a reimbursement system, with daycare centers applying for the subsidy.

Choi Chunggyu, head of Daedeok-gu Office, said, "To proactively respond to changes in the population structure and the low birth rate, it is essential to support the stable settlement of foreign families in the local community."
