Funds to Be Used for Accident Response and Support for Bereaved Families
Following the Jeju Air passenger plane accident, the warm concern and compassion of people across the country for recovery and overcoming the crisis have come together, leading to the hometown love donation fund in Muan County surpassing 1.5 billion KRW in 2024.
According to the county on the 7th, as of the end of December last year, the total number of donations reached approximately 14,000 cases, with the provisional total amounting to about 1.55 billion KRW. Donations were made from Seoul and Gyeonggi regions (59.55%), Sejong City (11.27%), Jeonnam (8.51%), Gwangju (3.95%), and other regions (16.72%).
In particular, within just two days after the accident, 1.1 billion KRW in donations were collected, clearly reflecting the heartfelt empathy of the nation for the pain of the victims' families who were deeply shocked by the sudden incident, and the collective desire to overcome the hardship together.
The county will select projects to be funded by the donations through deliberation by the Hometown Love Fund Management Committee. Donations received after the accident will be prioritized for accident recovery and support for the bereaved families.
In addition, the use of the donations will be transparently disclosed on the county's official website so that donors can directly check how their contributions are being used.
Kim San, the county governor, stated, "The comfort and encouragement sent to Muan County through the Hometown Love Donation Program have been a great source of strength," and added, "We will do our utmost in accident recovery and support for the victims with a strong sense of responsibility to repay the precious hearts of so many people."
