Guro-gu Supports Insurance Enrollment for Electric Mobility Devices for Disabled Persons Starting This Year

Automatic Enrollment Upon Moving... Up to 50 Million KRW Coverage

Guro-gu Supports Insurance Enrollment for Electric Mobility Devices for Disabled Persons Starting This Year

Guro-gu will support insurance enrollment for disabled people using electric mobility aids starting this year.

This measure comes as accidents related to electric mobility aids, such as electric wheelchairs and electric scooters, have increased along with the growing number of users.

The number of insured individuals is estimated at 439 electric mobility aid users among registered disabled residents of Guro-gu, based on the number of people who received electric mobility aids through health insurance and medical benefits over the past six years (2018?2023), which is the durability period of the aids.

Once the district signs an insurance contract with an insurance company, users are automatically enrolled without any separate registration process from the insurance start date.

Enrollment is automatic upon moving into Guro-gu and automatically canceled upon moving to another area.

Regardless of where an accident occurs nationwide, third-party bodily injury and property damage liability arising from operating electric mobility aids are covered up to 50 million KRW, with a deductible of 50,000 KRW.

The coverage period is one year.

In case of an accident, the insured person or legal heir can directly claim insurance benefits from the insurer, who will verify Guro-gu resident registration through the district office before proceeding with compensation.

A Guro-gu official stated, “We expect that supporting insurance enrollment for electric mobility aids will not only improve mobility rights but also reduce economic burdens, thereby promoting social participation of disabled people,” and added, “We will actively promote accurate understanding and utilization of insurance coverage in case of accidents.”
