Why Dobong-gu Office Employees Are Smiling Brightly at the Start of the Year?...New Weekend Resort and 3-Day 'Newcomer Leap Vacation' Introduced

Dobong-gu (District Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is implementing a newly revised employee welfare system starting this month to boost staff morale.

The most notable changes are related to employee leisure activities. Employee leisure significantly impacts work productivity and job satisfaction. With this revision of the leisure system, the district expects not only individual satisfaction but also a considerable improvement in organizational atmosphere.

Starting this year, in addition to the existing corporate condos, the district plans to operate weekend resorts. Until now, employees could only use designated corporate condos and resorts.

However, now employees can enjoy "Hokangs" (a newly coined term meaning vacations at hotels) and "Glamping" (a newly coined term meaning luxurious camping) on weekends. This diversification of accommodation options reflects changing vacation trends. Weekend resort accommodations include hotels in Seoul and glamping sites.

The biennial support system for autonomous resorts, implemented since last year, will continue. Until the year before last, employees were given 300,000 KRW in resort support funds through a lottery.

However, since some employees were excluded from the lottery, the system was changed last year to a biennial system (even and odd years) so that everyone can benefit.

Measures to improve working conditions are also being introduced. From this year, the district will grant a 3-day special leave called "Newcomer Leap Leave" to public officials with less than 5 years of service and implement an "Overtime Work Annual Leave Conversion System" that allows overtime pay to be used as annual leave.

For a safer working environment, security guards will be deployed more widely at community service centers, and clothing expenses will be provided to community center staff for flood control and snow removal duties.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, "A healthy employee means a healthy organization, and a happy employee means happy residents," adding, "We will continue to communicate with employees and discover and implement welfare projects for them to foster a healthy organizational culture."

Since the start of the 8th local government term, the district has been operating various welfare systems in line with the mayor’s administrative philosophy. From the beginning of his term, the mayor has emphasized that employee happiness directly translates into administrative service quality.

The district currently supports employees’ skill development by providing self-development funds and implementing a "Saga Reading Study Leave." The self-development funds apply to all areas necessary for personal growth, including performances, exhibitions, foreign languages, hobbies, and fitness. The Saga Reading Study Leave grants two days of leave annually, offering an autonomous learning environment and opportunities for recharging.

Since last year, a special birthday leave system has been established, allowing employees to take one day off during their birthday month. Long-term service leave has been subdivided by years of service to provide employees with more benefits.

As family-friendly welfare, married employees receive marriage congratulatory points, and pregnant employees receive pregnancy congratulatory money. For childbirth, the district provides childbirth congratulatory funds of 400,000 KRW for the first child, 500,000 KRW for the second, and 800,000 KRW for the third and subsequent children.

Health management welfare programs are also in place. The district supports flu vaccination costs for employees during winter and provides health checkup expenses according to age groups. The "6-Month Miracle" program selects outstanding employees after six months of health management, rewarding them and encouraging active participation.

Additionally, to relieve job stress and invigorate life, the district offers employee healing education consisting of various cultural experiences such as media art exhibition visits, musical performances, and one-day classes. For employees’ psychological stability, a professional counseling program called "Mind Comma" is also operated.
