Inspection of Home Heating Devices
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will provide cold-weather supplies such as heating mats, winter blankets, and quilted vests to 245 low-income elderly households vulnerable to cold waves by the 10th of this month.
The delivery of supplies will be carried out by five organizations?Seoul Yongsan Senior Welfare Center, Galwol Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Hyochang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Cheongpa Senior Welfare Center, and Yongsan Home Care Support Center?dividing the area into zones and visiting homes.
During home visits, heating devices used in the households such as boilers, electric mats, heaters, and stoves will also be inspected. They will check for issues like boiler exhaust pipe detachment or pipe deformation, and whether heating device wires and plugs are damaged, to help the elderly spend the winter safely.
Meanwhile, the district has designated the period from November 15 last year to March 15 this year as the cold wave response period and operates a dedicated cold wave situation management team. Efforts are underway to focus protection on vulnerable groups, ensure safety management of cold wave vulnerable facilities, and operate life-oriented cold wave mitigation facilities.
This cold-weather supplies support is one of the measures to protect vulnerable groups from cold waves. In addition, 1,271 disaster helpers (including life support workers, social workers, and public officials) check on the health and safety of vulnerable groups through welfare calls or visits.
District Mayor Park Hee-young stated, “I hope this cold-weather supplies support will provide practical help to elderly people in vulnerable groups,” and added, “We will carefully watch over neighbors who might be left out in the severe cold and will not hesitate to provide necessary support.”
