306 New Dong Resident Autonomy Committee Members Appointed... Actively Identifying and Solving Local Issues to Promote Resident Autonomy and Community Revitalization
Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) held a commissioning ceremony for the 14 neighborhood residents' autonomy committee members on the 6th.
The residents' autonomy committee is a representative self-governing body where residents themselves identify neighborhood issues, discover and discuss necessary projects to resolve them, and actively lead efforts for local development.
The residents' autonomy committee independently identifies inconveniences or problems needing improvement within the area and discovers projects necessary to solve them. These discovered projects are discussed and voted on in a public forum called the residents' general assembly, where the decision to proceed is made, and ultimately, the residents' autonomy committee executes them.
Since October last year, the district conducted a recruitment of committee members targeting five neighborhoods whose members' terms expired on December 31 and nine neighborhoods needing to fill vacancies, completing the final selection of 306 members last December.
The commissioning ceremony proceeded in the order of awarding certificates, delivering commissioning remarks, and presentations of residents' autonomy committee activity cases by senior members. The commissioned members will actively engage in self-governing activities for the next two years to realize "residents becoming the owners of their community." They will directly work on establishing and implementing autonomy plans for local development and improving residents' lives, as well as various education programs and events to revitalize residents' autonomy and village communities.
Attending the ceremony, District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, "The residents' autonomy committee members are grateful individuals who dedicate their personal time with a spirit of service to think about and carry out village matters," and added, "I ask all newly commissioned members to actively participate based on their affection for the community and neighbors to promote residents' autonomy and create a happy local community."
The district completed the formation of residents' autonomy committees across all 16 neighborhoods in 2023 and is actively conducting residents' autonomy activities, including holding a joint performance sharing meeting of the 16 neighborhood committees at the Jungnang-gu Office lawn plaza in 2024.
