Opening of 'Cleaning On-Site Situation Room' at Daerim Central Market on January 6
On-site patrols, illegal dumping control, waste disposal guidelines promotion
Strengthening on-site response and encouraging resident participation for a neat and clean Daerim-dong
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced on the 6th at 2 PM the opening of a 'Cleaning Field Situation Room' at the customer rest area of Daerim Central Market to improve the street environment in Daerim-dong, which has been suffering from illegal dumping, and to strengthen on-site response.
As of the end of September 2024, the proportion of foreigners in Daerim 2-dong reaches 52% of the district's population. Daerim-dong is lined with Chinese restaurants and manpower offices, and due to the large number of short-term foreign residents and floating population, it has been struggling with illegal dumping.
First, the district opened the 'Cleaning Field Situation Room' at the customer rest area of Daerim Central Market to innovate cleaning throughout Daerim-dong. This decision was made based on the judgment that strengthening resident participation and on-site response is crucial for creating a clean street environment.
At the 'Cleaning Field Situation Room,' the hub of cleaning administration in Daerim-dong, the Cleaning Department and the resident centers of Daerim 1, 2, and 3-dong jointly carried out ▲urgent handling of waste-related civil complaints ▲patrols of habitual illegal dumping sites ▲crackdown on illegal dumping ▲promotion of proper waste disposal methods.
About 80 people, including District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon, merchant association officials, and Daerim-dong residents, attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony proceeded with a business plan report followed by a plaque unveiling. Afterwards, participants moved to Daerim Central Market to conduct cleaning and promotional activities.
A resident who participated in the opening ceremony said, "Foreigners are not accustomed to separating waste due to cultural and institutional differences, which makes waste disposal difficult," and added, "Starting with the opening of the Cleaning Field Situation Room, we will create a Daerim-dong culture where all residents, including foreigners, cultivate a clean environment."
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "Through the opening of the 'Cleaning Field Situation Room,' the first step of Da·Dong·Dan·Gyeol (keeping Daerim-dong neat and clean), all residents will work together to create a clean living culture," and added, "We will continue to strengthen on-site response in cleaning administration and resident participation to make Yeongdeungpo a clean, livable, safe, and pleasant neighborhood."
