Prosecutors Indict Intelligence Commander Mun Sang-ho for 'Key Role in Insurrection'

Prosecutors Indict Intelligence Commander Mun Sang-ho for 'Key Role in Insurrection' Yonhap News

Moon Sang-ho, Commander of the Republic of Korea Army Intelligence Command (Major General), who is suspected of deploying troops to the National Election Commission and participating in the pre-planning of martial law during the declaration of emergency martial law on December 3, has been brought to trial.

The Special Investigation Headquarters for Emergency Martial Law of the Prosecutor's Office (Headed by Park Se-hyun, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office) announced on the 6th that Moon was arrested and indicted on charges of engaging in important duties related to rebellion and abuse of authority to obstruct the exercise of rights.

Moon is accused of ordering the deployment of troops to the National Election Commission in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, after President Yoon Seok-yeol declared emergency martial law on the 3rd of last month.

There is also evidence that before the declaration of martial law, Moon met with former Intelligence Command Commander Noh Sang-won at a hamburger fast-food restaurant in Gyeonggi Province along with two colonels from the Intelligence Command to pre-plan the martial law.

The prosecution views Moon's actions as causing public disorder with the intent to disrupt the constitutional order and abusing his official authority to compel unnecessary duties, and has therefore sent the case to trial.
