The birth of the 'New Year Baby' embodying the spirit of the Year of the Wood Snake 2025 in Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongbuk, has swept the entire city into a festive atmosphere.
On the 6th, Yeongcheon-si announced that it held a celebration event for the birth of the New Year Baby of the Year of the Wood Snake by visiting the local maternity hospital (Yeongcheon J Hospital).
At the event, Choi Ki-moon, Mayor of Yeongcheon, Park Sun-hee, Director of Yeongcheon Public Health Center, and Kim Seok-won, Hospital Director, along with other officials, attended and exchanged congratulatory remarks.
The New Year Baby of the Year of the Wood Snake, born on the 3rd, is a healthy baby girl weighing 3.5 kg, the first child of mother Yoon from Nambu-dong and her husband Lee.
Mother Yoon said, "I am happy that our child was born as Yeongcheon-si’s New Year Baby this year and received many congratulations," adding, "I hope she grows up healthy and upright."
Mayor Choi Ki-moon said, "I sincerely congratulate the birth of the New Year Baby amid the worsening low birthrate situation, and it is meaningful to be able to share in the birth of this precious and valuable baby," and added, "Yeongcheon-si will do its best to ease the burden of childbirth and childcare for parents."
Meanwhile, starting in 2025, Yeongcheon-si plans to provide up to 1 million KRW for postpartum care expenses per childbirth and up to 500,000 KRW per pregnancy for medical expenses for pregnant women aged 35 and over. In addition, the city is working to reduce the economic burden of childbirth by abolishing age distinctions in support programs for infertile couples.
