Establishment of Jipyeong Station Kkumdeulim Regional Children's Center in 2028
Expectations for Upgrading the Eastern Region Standards
Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) announced on the 6th that it has been selected for the pilot project to create a public regional children's center utilizing idle spaces at railway stations, led by the Korea Rail Network Authority, by the end of 2024.
This pilot project is fully funded by the Korea Rail Network Authority to create regional children's centers using idle spaces at railway stations. Yangpyeong-gun proposed the establishment of centers at three locations (Yangpyeong Station, Yongmun Station, and Jipyeong Station), but the final selection was made for the center to be established at Jipyeong Station.
Accordingly, by March 2028, a public regional children's center named Dream Dream (Kkumdeulim) with a total floor area of 200㎡ (capacity of 30 children) will be newly established in the plaza of Jipyeong Station (334-7 Songhyeon-ri, Jipyeong-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun), with the Korea Rail Network Authority providing full support of 1.2 billion KRW for construction costs.
Yangpyeong-gun stated that through the establishment of a regional children's center in the somewhat vulnerable eastern area, it expects regional balance, population inflow, and an overall uplift of the area.
Governor Jeon Jin-seon of Yangpyeong-gun said, “The establishment of a public regional children's center capable of providing educational and emotional support as well as after-school care in Jipyeong-myeon, where there are no care institutions for elementary and middle school students, will overcome regional limitations and enhance the value of Yangpyeong-gun. We will continue to strive to build a care system that is good for raising children.”
Meanwhile, Yangpyeong-gun is focusing on child care in the region by designating a hub-type child care center in 2025 to eliminate care gaps and providing emergency and temporary care services when children need care due to sudden absence of guardians, among other efforts.
