SG, the No. 1 asphalt concrete specialist company in Korea, announced on the 6th that it has successfully achieved the final goal of the performance-sharing system jointly conducted with POSCO E&C.
The performance-sharing system is a win-win program between large and small-to-medium enterprises, where POSCO E&C and its partner companies jointly carry out improvement activities and share the results. Partner companies aim to secure technological capabilities and improve their organizational structure, while large companies can stably receive improved materials, optimizing mutual growth.
Since the joint agreement to promote the performance-sharing system in March, the company, with the joint support of POSCO E&C and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, obtained Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification for four types of steel slag recycled heated asphalt concrete product standards. The EPD certification acquired by SG pertains to eco-friendly manufacturing technology for recycled heated asphalt concrete products, marking the first case in the asphalt concrete industry.
EPD is a system that transparently discloses environmental impacts from raw material extraction to production, distribution, use, and disposal of products. It serves as an indicator for consumers to choose environmentally friendly products, and the demand for EPD certification is increasing overseas as well.
Meanwhile, in October, the company applied the steel slag recycled heated asphalt concrete surface layer product at the Korea Gas Corporation Dangjin Base construction site, creating an environment where POSCO E&C could directly evaluate the materials.
A POSCO E&C official stated, “In addition to the Korea Gas Corporation Dangjin Base construction project, we will actively apply this product at our construction sites,” and added, “The achievements of this performance-sharing system are expected to create synergy effects for SG’s ongoing overseas business expansion in countries such as Ukraine and India.”
