Unlike ordinary eggs, this one was almost perfectly spherical. The woman immediately contacted the British auction house 'Thomson Roddick Cullen' to request an auction. Subsequently, a man named Ed Pownall, residing in Lambourn, Berkshire, London, won the auction by bidding ?150 (about 270,000 KRW). It is reported that he preserved the egg’s shape by keeping the shell intact while removing the contents. A representative from the auction house explained, "The probability of an egg being this close to a perfect sphere is about one in a billion."

Pownall donated the egg to a local charity. The organization stated, "At first, we were puzzled by the donation of an egg, but after checking the news, we decided to accept it." They put the egg up for auction again, and an anonymous buyer purchased it for ?200 (about 360,000 KRW). This means it was sold for a price 1,500 times higher than the approximately 241 KRW the woman originally paid at the supermarket. The charity said, "This egg was one of the items in the charity auction, which raised a total of ?5,000 (about 9.1 million KRW)," adding, "This will help support young people struggling with mental health issues."
