Seongdong-gu Secures 7.243 Billion KRW in Special Grants and Special Adjustment Grants

Construction of Seongdong-style Shared Office in Ttukseom Special Planning Zone to Create Synergy with Seongsu-dong Industries like Fashion, Gaming, and K-POP for Job Creation... Small Gymnasium in Songjeong-dong, Underground Wiring near Geumok Elementary School, 5-Minute Daily Garden City Development, Expansion of Heated and Cooled Chairs to Enhance Resident Convenience and Safety

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it has secured a total of 7.243 billion KRW in special grants and special adjustment grants for the second half of 2024, and plans to accelerate various projects that enhance resident convenience, such as job creation and revitalization of the local economy.

Seongdong-gu secured a total of 7.243 billion KRW, including 2.2 billion KRW in special grants and 5.043 billion KRW in special adjustment grants, allocated as follows: 1.643 billion KRW for the construction of the Seongdong-type shared office, 1.3 billion KRW for facility improvements at the Seongdong Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Future Technology Experience Center, 950 million KRW for repairs of safety-vulnerable facilities in multi-use public buildings, 900 million KRW for the construction of a small gymnasium in Songjeong-dong, 700 million KRW for repair and reinforcement of the pedestrian bridge between Sageun and Yongdap, 600 million KRW for installation of road heating cables on steep slopes for disaster preparedness, 500 million KRW for undergrounding work around Geumok Elementary School, 400 million KRW for creating a 5-minute living radius daily garden, and 250 million KRW for installing smart cooling and heating chairs.

Accordingly, the district plans to focus on projects such as the construction of the Seongdong-type shared office, the small gymnasium in Songjeong-dong, and undergrounding work around Geumok Elementary School this year.

First, the district plans to build the Seongdong-type shared office within the Ttukseom Surrounding Area Special Planning Zone. This zone is located near Ttukseom Station and Seoul Forest Station and is adjacent to Yeonmujang-gil, a major commercial street in Seongsu-dong, resulting in high foot traffic.

In particular, since various industries such as fashion, gaming, and K-POP are concentrated here, the establishment of a shared office is expected to greatly contribute to job creation and revitalization of the local economy through synergy effects with existing industries.

Additionally, the district plans to improve facilities such as the drone experience area within the Seongdong Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Future Technology Experience Center (formerly the 4th Industrial Revolution Experience Center) to reflect the latest trends in future technologies and enhance the quality of digital utilization education.

The aging facilities of the Kumho-dong and Sageun-dong community centers, Songjeong-dong public complex building, and Seongsu-dong Seongdong Safety Shopping Mall Building will be renovated to improve convenience and safety for residents. In Songjeong-dong, where the infrastructure for community sports is poor, the district will build the ‘Songjeong-dong Our Neighborhood Small Gymnasium’ using the vacant public building (former Songjeong-dong Residents’ Autonomous Hall) to provide sports facilities accessible to all age groups.

The pedestrian bridge between Sageun and Yongdap will be repaired and reinforced to prevent major accidents such as cracks or collapses caused by aging facilities. Road heating cables will be installed in steep slope areas within Seongdong-gu to enable immediate snow removal during snowfall, preventing collisions and falls.

Undergrounding work will be carried out on utility poles and overhead lines along Dokseodang-ro near Geumok Elementary School to improve urban aesthetics and create a safe and pleasant walking environment.

Following last year, the district will continue to focus on creating a ‘5-minute daily garden city’ so that residents can enjoy the rest and leisure provided by gardens close to their daily lives. Smart cooling and heating chairs will be further installed at bus stops to protect vulnerable passengers during heatwaves and cold spells, enhancing resident satisfaction and convenience.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Through securing external funding, we expect not only to revitalize the local economy but also to effectively implement life-centered policies that residents can feel. We will actively promote high-quality projects that enable residents to live safe and happy lives in a better Seongdong-gu.”
