'Yoon Mentor' Shin Pyung: "Yoon Tong Will Have Strong Political Influence Even If Imprisoned"

Attorney Shin Pyeong, known as a mentor to President Yoon Suk-yeol, claimed that "President Yoon will exert powerful political influence even while imprisoned."

On the 3rd, Attorney Shin posted an article titled "The Dead Gongmyeong Will Chase the Living Jungdal!" on Facebook. In the post, he stated, "The impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk-yeol at the Constitutional Court will probably not extend beyond March," and added, "As I have repeatedly said, unless the justices have a particular ideological bias, they will likely vote to dismiss the impeachment." He further noted, "However, if the contents of the prosecution's indictment against former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun are largely accepted as true, the decision may lean toward approval." Attorney Shin also mentioned that the U.S. Supreme Court's July 1 ruling last year in the 'Trump v. United States' case provides significant insight into President Yoon's impeachment trial.

He continued, "If President Yoon returns alive from the Constitutional Court, the latter half of his administration will show many changes compared to the first half," and said, "I believe his character and exceptional empathy will allow him to accept the valuable lessons brought by pain and trials, transforming him into a more mature politician who listens to opposing opinions."

Attorney Shin also predicted President Yoon's fate if he were to be 'dismissed' by the Constitutional Court. He said, "If President Yoon is dismissed by the Constitutional Court, he will subsequently receive a heavy sentence in criminal court," but added, "Will his influence be completely exhausted afterward? No, it will not." He went on to say, "After the Yoon administration ends and some time passes, the strengths of the Yoon government will be portrayed again as a message of hope."

Attorney Shin evaluated the Yoon administration as "the first government in our constitutional history where power-related corruption disappeared." He further predicted, "Admiration for his strong, populist leadership will grow stronger under the Lee Jae-myung administration if Lee is elected in an early presidential election." This suggests that if the Democratic Party comes to power, the public, tired of their closed worldview, will strongly feel nostalgia for the past Yoon administration.

He wrote, "First of all, Yoon Suk-yeol will exert powerful political influence even while imprisoned," and "His prophetic insight will wield tremendous power in public elections." He likened this to the historical story of Zhuge Liang, who, though dead, chased away Sima Yi during the Battle of Wuzhang Plains, quoting the phrase "The dead Gongmyeong chases the living Jungdal."

Finally, Attorney Shin concluded, "If another conservative government comes to power and grants him a pardon, releasing him from prison, he could still run for and be elected president under the four-year single-term presidential system established after constitutional amendment." He added, "In this way, he will continue to possess an irreplaceable political aura that no one in the conservative camp can rival, undoubtedly leading the conservative camp forward."
