Attended the '2025 Economic Community New Year's Meeting' on the 3rd
Choi Sang-mok, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, stated on the 3rd, "With the belief that the economy must thrive for the Republic of Korea to thrive, we will prioritize protecting businesses from risk factors."
Acting Prime Minister Choi made these remarks while attending the "2025 Economic Community New Year's Meeting" held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He said, "Our economy is still facing slow domestic demand recovery and unprecedented uncertainties. In particular, I am well aware of the great concerns of businesspeople amid the intensifying global technological hegemony competition."
He added, "To overcome these difficult domestic and international conditions, the government will exert all its efforts. We will prepare systematic response strategies to address uncertainties in the trade environment, such as the inauguration of the new U.S. administration, and focus on customized corporate support to revitalize exports and investment."
He continued, "We will actively reflect the voices of businesspeople working on the economic frontlines and concentrate government-wide capabilities on fostering future new industries such as AI and bio through national research and development budget support and regulatory reform."
Furthermore, he stated, "We will actively participate in the ruling and opposition parties and government consultative body discussions for the swift legislation of key economic bills such as the Semiconductor Act and the Power Grid Act. Through an unprecedentedly rapid and innovative livelihood support project, we will make our best efforts to promptly revitalize the economy."
