Gyeonggi Province will activate Emergency Response Level 1 of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters from 10 PM on the 4th to proactively respond to heavy snow, as snow or rain is forecasted across the entire province from early morning on the 5th until early morning the next day. The Korea Meteorological Administration previously forecasted the possibility of a heavy snow advisory in the Seoul metropolitan area due to snowfall in the early hours of the 5th.
Emergency Response Level 1 will be led by the Head of the Natural Disasters Division of Gyeonggi Province, with a total of 17 personnel working across road, transportation, and agriculture sectors.
As heavy snow is expected to begin in the early morning hours, Gyeonggi Province plans to proactively monitor weather and road snow accumulation conditions, deploy snow removal personnel and equipment in advance, and pre-apply de-icing agents. These measures aim to prepare for traffic congestion caused by weekend travelers and ensure pedestrian safety during snow removal operations.
At the meeting of deputy heads of the province and city/county governments chaired by Kim Seong-jung, the First Deputy Governor for Administration of Gyeonggi Province, on the 3rd, attendees were urged to secure residents' safety through thorough pre-inspections, preparations, and diligent snow removal work in response to the early morning snowfall.
Kim Seong-jung, First Deputy Governor for Administration of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "I ask that snow removal operations be conducted during the daytime with at least two-person teams to ensure safety. We will do our best to ensure residents' safety by advancing snow removal personnel and equipment deployment, managing the situation, and conducting thorough snow removal focused on vulnerable sections to prevent traffic accidents caused by icy roads during the morning commute."
