Dangjin City in Chungnam has begun the first round of recruitment for candidates for the "2025 Young Farmer Settlement Support Project," aimed at fostering young farmers who will lead the advancement of agriculture.
The application period runs until the 5th of next month. Eligible applicants are those aged 18 or older but under 40, who have been independently managing a full-time farm for less than three years or are planning to start farming, and whose assets and income are below a certain threshold.
The "Young Farmer Settlement Support Project" provides a settlement support allowance of between 900,000 KRW and up to 1,100,000 KRW per month for up to three years, as well as various forms of support such as start-up funds for purchasing or leasing farmland and facilities, preferential credit guarantees from the Agricultural, Forestry, and Fisheries Credit Guarantee Fund, and priority support for farmland leasing.
However, start-up funds are subject to a separate allocation process, and the final support amount may vary depending on the credit assessment and review by the lending institution, so applicants are encouraged to consult with the lending institution in advance.
This year, the criteria for allowing off-farm work under the settlement support project have been significantly relaxed. Previously, those selected for the project were required to engage in full-time farming, with off-farm work permitted only in limited cases such as during the off-season.
However, starting this year, reflecting feedback from the field, young farmers receiving support may now engage in short-term off-farm work of less than 100 hours per month (up from the previous 60 hours), and the period for off-season work has been extended from three months to five months per year.
Additionally, for young farmers whose support payments have ended, off-farm work is now permitted without restrictions, provided they continue farming.
Youth wishing to apply for the Young Farmer Settlement Support Project should submit their application through the Agricultural Project Information System by the 5th of next month.
Candidates will be finalized at the end of March following a document review in February and an interview evaluation in March.
A city official stated, "We will prepare practical, customized support measures so that young people can successfully settle in agriculture and grow into key talents leading the future of rural areas."
