Compensation Amount Determined at the End of May... Payment in August
Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju will be accepting applications for military noise damage compensation. The application period runs from the 6th of this month to February 28.
According to Gwangsan-gu on the 3rd, eligible recipients are residents who had their registered address and actually lived in the noise-affected areas (military airfields, Pyeongdong shooting range) from January 1 to December 31 last year, or those who lived in the noise-affected areas in 2023 but did not apply previously.
For military airfields, compensation is paid according to the noise damage grade: Type 1 (95 WECPNL or above) receives 60,000 KRW per month, Type 2 (below 95 WECPNL) receives 45,000 KRW per month, and Type 3 (85 WECPNL or above but below 90 WECPNL) receives 30,000 KRW per month. However, the amount paid per person may vary depending on reduction conditions such as the time of moving in, location of workplace, or place of employment.
For the Pyeongdong military shooting range, Type 1 (94 dB(C) or above) receives 60,000 KRW per month, Type 2 (90 dB(C) or above but below 94 dB(C)) receives 45,000 KRW per month, and Type 3 (84 dB(C) or above but below 90 dB(C)) receives 30,000 KRW per month. The compensation may be reduced depending on the number of shooting days.
The district will operate application centers at six administrative welfare centers: Songjeong 1, Songjeong 2, Dosan, Sinhung, Usan, and Donggok-dong. For Pyeongdong, for residents' convenience, applications will be accepted this month at Pyeongji Senior Center (245 Myeonghwa Pyeongji-gil).
Eligible residents must submit an application form, ID card, and a copy of their bankbook. If a household member applies as a representative, a household representative selection form must also be submitted. Employees must attach a certificate of employment or employment insurance qualification history.
To prevent congestion during the first week of applications, a five-day rotation system based on the last digit of the applicant's birth year will be implemented. Online applications will be available starting from the 14th.
The compensation amount will be determined and notified at the end of May, and payments will be made in August.
