Kwon Seon-wook, former Prevention Division Chief of the Northern Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, was inaugurated as the 11th Chief of Yangju Fire Station on January 1.

On January 2, Chief Kwon officially began his duties by paying respects at the Memorial Tower along with about 26 staff members, including Ban Gi-nam and Kim Seon-gyeong, chairpersons of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Association.
Chief Kwon, who began his career as a firefighter in 2001, has held various positions such as the National Intelligence Service Counterterrorism Situation Room, Central Fire Academy Instructor at the National Fire Agency, and Fire Academy Chief of Gangwon Province. Based on his extensive field experience and administrative capabilities, he has been recognized for achievements including receiving the Government Innovation Award and ranking first in the national fire academy evaluation.
Chief Kwon stated, “I believe all problems arise when fundamental principles are not followed,” adding, “I will prioritize principles and fairness and operate the organization based on systems.” He also said, “I will ensure autonomy, reduce unnecessary formalities, communicate with staff, and create a flexible working environment.”
Emphasizing field safety, he pledged, “Through adherence to manuals and the attention of on-site commanders, I will create a fire station free of safety accidents.” Reflecting on the essence and value of firefighters, he added, “I will contemplate with the staff why we chose this path and continue to motivate them.”
Chief Kwon is regarded as a commander who builds a trusted organizational culture with gentle leadership while remaining faithful to basics and principles. His commitment and vision are expected to greatly contribute to the safety of Yangju citizens.
