On that day, Professor Kim stated at Toray Advanced Materials, "Trump's core policy is America First," and added, "South Korea needs to reduce Chinese-made components and create a corporate environment aligned with U.S. standards." He continued, "The U.S. will impose a 10% tariff on South Korea and a 60% tariff on China," explaining that South Korea must diversify trade and expand commerce.
Professor Kim also forecasted that the KRW-USD exchange rate could rise to the 1600 won range this year. He emphasized, "The dollar's share in international trade continues to rise to 70%," and stated, "The National Assembly and government need to ensure political stability, maintain foreign exchange reserves of 930 billion dollars, and establish Korea-U.S. and Korea-Japan currency swaps to prevent exchange rate increases."
Professor Kim said, "Since Trump's inauguration, South Korea's shipbuilding and defense industries have opportunities," and "If the Ukraine war ends in June, overseas construction will grow significantly."
Toray Advanced Materials is a materials company supplying high value-added advanced materials such as polyester film and IT materials, as well as basic materials like cotton and yarn. It operates five factories in Gumi and is expanding overseas into countries such as China and Indonesia.
