On the 3rd, Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province held a proclamation ceremony for the "2025 Cheongyang! Year of Creating a Tourism City" in the county office’s main conference room, followed by a plaque unveiling ceremony in front of the county office building.
In preparation for "2025 Cheongyang! Year of Creating a Tourism City," the county completed the 119 Complex Town last year, which attracts about 20,000 trainees annually. In December of the same year, accessibility to the Seoul metropolitan area was also enhanced with the opening of the West Inland Expressway.
Additionally, the county completed major tourism projects such as Chilgaphos and Cheonjanghos, and began construction on the Chungnam Provincial Park Golf Course project.
With various tourism infrastructures steadily being completed, the county plans to implement full-scale policies to attract tourists throughout the year.
In particular, this year and 2026 have been designated as the "Visit Chungnam Year," and the county’s tourism policies, aligned with those of South Chungcheong Province, are expected to gain momentum by specializing in various tourism infrastructures.
Furthermore, the county plans to focus its efforts on increasing the resident population through festivals and events, such as a major revamp of the region's representative festival, the "Cheongyang Chili Pepper and Gugija Cultural Festival."
The resident population refers to the number of people staying in the area for a certain period, in addition to the registered population (resident registration, registered foreigners). As the risk of local extinction increases, this is gaining attention as an economic policy solution that brings the same effect as actual population inflow to each local government.
Kim Dongon, the county governor, said, "Today's event is an opportunity to reaffirm Cheongyang County's goals for the new year of 2025. By significantly increasing the number of tourists this year, we will boost the resident population and inject real vitality into the local economy."
