The Ministry of the Interior and Safety established the "Local Public Institution Innovation Guidelines" in September 2022 to improve the poor and wasteful management of local public institutions and enhance the quality of public services, and has been promoting structural reform. In addition, to spread innovation and achieve concrete results early, excellent local governments in structural reform have been selected and given financial benefits (incentives) since 2023.

Since last year, Uijeongbu City has been promoting the consolidation and abolition of public institutions with similar and overlapping functions to provide high-quality public services and improve management efficiency. Recognizing these efforts, it was selected as the best local government among 101 basic local governments.

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, "Through structural reform of public institutions, we are focusing on improving the management efficiency and external competitiveness of public institutions and strengthening the city's fiscal soundness," adding, "We will continue to innovate to improve citizens' lives and create changes that citizens can feel."

Uijeongbu City has completed the revision (or establishment) of ordinances for the consolidation and abolition of four public institutions and is making efforts to complete the consolidation of public institutions by April this year.
