15 Graduates from 10 Countries... Building a Global Pro-Korean Network in the Fisheries Sector
National Pukyong University (President Bae Sang-hoon) recently held the 2024 International Fisheries Science Cooperative Program degree conferment ceremony, a global degree program, at Dongwon Jangbogo Hall.
On this day, 15 participants from 10 countries around the world, who had completed all courses since August 2023 in aquaculture, seafood processing and food safety, fisheries and resource management, and fisheries management and policy, received their master's degrees in fisheries science.
This program, operated by National Pukyong University for 15 years, is an international cooperation human resource development (HRD) program conducted jointly with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), designed to cultivate global talents in the field of fisheries science.
The program transfers Korea's excellent technology and academic expertise in the fisheries sector, recognized worldwide, to developing countries, establishing a global pro-Korea network in fisheries and contributing to the development of the global fisheries industry. It is a representative official development assistance project.
Since its inception in 2010, a total of 234 master's graduates in fisheries science have been produced, including the 15 graduates this year. After earning their degrees in Korea, they return to their home countries and actively engage in fisheries project development and policy-making activities.
National Pukyong University plans to continue this program as the number of graduates playing important roles in various fisheries cooperation cases between Korea and developing countries increases.
