Caught Entering the Event Holding Hands with Two Children
The intelligence authorities have stated that they are keeping open the possibility that the children presumed to be the offspring of Kim Yo-jong, Deputy Director of the Workers' Party, were revealed in the New Year's celebration performance video from North Korea, and are currently analyzing the matter.
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) announced on the 3rd that regarding the children seen with Deputy Director Kim in the video released on the 1st, "Considering the age range of Kim Yo-jong's children already identified, we are keeping open the possibility that it is true and are conducting a detailed analysis."
In the live broadcast video of the celebration performance aired earlier by Korean Central Television, Deputy Director Kim Yo-jong is seen walking outside the 'May 1 Stadium' holding the hand of a boy and accompanied by a girl while the performance is ongoing.
An official from the Ministry of Unification evaluated Deputy Director Kim holding the children's hands at the event as "unusual." The official added, "We view it as peculiar because the event was one where families were accompanied."
Deputy Director Kim is the younger sister of Chairman Kim Jong-un and serves as his 'mouthpiece.' Although analyses regarding her marriage, pregnancy, and childbirth have been continuously raised, the actual facts have not yet been officially confirmed.
In a report to the National Assembly Intelligence Committee in April 2015, the NIS observed that Deputy Director Kim was expected to give birth in May of that year, and it was presumed that her husband was a classmate from Kim Il-sung University. Later, in February 2018, a government source revealed that Deputy Director Kim, who visited South Korea at the time, was indeed pregnant, which led to speculation about a second pregnancy.
