[Aircraft Disaster] Five Victims Laid to Rest Amid Condolences from Bereaved Families

Five victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster have been laid to rest.

On the morning of the 3rd, the sixth day since the disaster, the family of victim A bid their final farewell in tears during the funeral procession at a funeral hall in Gwangju. The bereaved families held the portraits of their loved ones close, expressing gratitude they could not convey during their lifetimes to those lost in the tragedy.

On this day, five victims, including A, are being laid to rest after funeral services at funeral halls in Gwangju, Yeosu, and Damyang in South Jeolla Province. The previous day, the first funerals for victims of the disaster were held, with four laid to rest. Of the 179 victims, the bodies of 42 have been returned to their families so far.

The police, military, and fire authorities are continuing recovery operations at the disaster site, collecting remains and personal belongings in accordance with the wishes of the bereaved families who hope to recover their loved ones for proper funerals.

Meanwhile, Jeju Air flight 7C 2216, which departed from Bangkok, Thailand and was headed for Muan Airport, attempted to land at Muan Airport at around 9:03 a.m. on the 29th of last month. The aircraft collided with airport facilities, and most of the plane was engulfed in flames.

As a result of the accident, 179 out of 181 people on board, including 175 passengers and two pilots and two crew members, died at the scene.
