Seohyun Academic Foundation Holds 2nd Seohyun Academic Awards Ceremony... Professors Jeong Hee-seon and Lee Yoo-jin Receive Top Honors

Seohyun Academic Foundation announced on the 3rd that it held the 2nd Seohyun Academic Awards ceremony the day before.


The Seohyun Academic Awards were launched to support the activities of next-generation researchers and enhance industry relevance, and this year marks the second edition.

The Grand Prize of the Seohyun Academic Awards was awarded to the joint research paper by Professor Heesun Jeong of Hanyang University and Professor Yujin Lee of Sejong University titled “Does the Purchase of Audit Opinions Undermine Auditor Independence? An Empirical Analysis Using Tax Avoidance.” The study was recognized for exploring the ripple effects of purchasing audit opinions from a new perspective and providing in-depth empirical evidence on the impact of auditors on tax avoidance.


Excellence Awards were given to one paper each in the fields of accounting and taxation. In accounting, the joint research paper by Professor Miok Cho of Kyung Hee University, Professor Sohee Park of Kookmin University, and Professor Beomjun Kim of Catholic University, titled “The Impact of Audit Committee Activities on Pre-Audit Financial Reporting Quality,” was selected. The work was acknowledged for offering practical and policy implications to enhance the effectiveness of audit committees.


The Excellence Award in taxation was awarded to Byeonggi Han, a doctoral student at Seoul National University Law School. Through his paper “A Study on VAT Taxation of Remote Services Provided by Non-Residents to Residents,” Han presented in-depth legislative perspectives on VAT policy.


Kangsungwon, Chairman of the Seohyun Academic Foundation, stated, “Through the Seohyun Academic Awards, we will support the academic activities of emerging researchers and fulfill our social responsibility in the knowledge service sector,” adding, “The Seohyun Academic Foundation will take the lead in advancing the accounting and taxation industries, fostering a healthy capital market, and supporting the sustainable growth of our companies.”


The Seohyun Academic Foundation is the first academic foundation established by voluntary contributions from employees of an accounting firm in 2022. Through the Seohyun Academic Awards, the foundation plans to continuously support academic promotion and research and development activities in the fields of accounting, taxation, and finance.
