The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province was selected as an excellent local government (Encouragement Award) in the '2024 Local Regulation Innovation Performance Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing a special grant of 100 million KRW.
On the 3rd, Suwon City announced that it was selected as an excellent local government after the Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluated 243 metropolitan and basic local governments nationwide, divided into four groups, based on their regulatory innovation performance in categories such as ▲efforts to improve bulk (central) regulations ▲efforts to improve shadow and behavioral regulations ▲efforts to improve regulations closely related to businesses and residents ▲and cases of regulatory improvement.
Suwon City operated a ‘Visiting Local Regulation Reporting Center’ to listen to regulatory difficulties faced by small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners and sought solutions. It also formed and operated the ‘Suwon City Livelihood Regulation Innovation Promotion Group’ to discover and prepare improvement plans for livelihood regulation innovation tasks. To resolve difficulties faced by workers in air quality, water quality, and odor measurement agencies, customized support measures were prepared, and discussions were held with local construction companies and builders on easing regulations in the construction sector. Additionally, to flexibly adjust the legal rest time for city bus transport operators, Suwon City cooperated with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to discuss amendments to related enforcement rules.
Furthermore, Suwon City became the first in the nation to obtain BF (Barrier Free) certification for a public arboretum, and was selected as a new case of proactive administration in the first quarter of 2024. It also simplified the permit procedures for remodeling housing projects and eased building regulations around Suwon Hwaseong Fortress.
A Suwon City official stated, "We will continuously discover and improve various regulations that hinder the livelihood of citizens to achieve regulatory innovation that citizens can feel," adding, "We will strive to ensure that citizens and businesses can experience tangible benefits."
