Plans to Introduce Eclipsa Audio Certification Program
Samsung Electronics announced on the 3rd that it will be the first in the industry to showcase a TV equipped with 'Eclipse Audio,' a 3D audio technology jointly developed with Google, at 'CES 2025,' the world's largest home appliance and information technology (IT) exhibition, held in Las Vegas, USA, from the 7th to the 10th (local time).
Eclipse Audio is based on IAMF (Immersive Audio Model and Formats) technology, which optimizes acoustic data such as sound location, intensity, and spatial reflections according to the device environment to deliver an immersive sound experience as if in a three-dimensional space.
The IAMF technology is an audio technology standard first adopted by the 'Alliance for Open Media' (AOM), which includes various global companies such as Samsung Electronics, Google, Netflix, and Meta. It is also the first open audio technology provided based on open source.
Samsung Electronics will officially support IAMF technology across its entire lineup, from the 2025 Crystal UHD models to Neo QLED 8K.
Samsung Electronics and Google plan to enable consumers to enjoy 3D audio content applying IAMF technology through the YouTube app dedicated to TVs. The two companies are strengthening cooperation by establishing testing standards to guarantee the audio quality of devices equipped with Eclipse Audio technology, together with the Korea Information and Communications Technology Association (TTA), an external certification body.
Tae-yong Son, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business, said, "At CES 2025, we plan to demonstrate the potential of next-generation immersive audio technology through Neo QLED TVs equipped with 3D audio technology," adding, "We will establish a new audio standard in the industry through IAMF technology."
Jim Bankoski, Vice President of Engineering at Google Chrome, said, "Google believes that Eclipse Audio has the potential to change the way sound is experienced," and added, "We look forward to seeing how creators utilize this to create new and innovative audio experiences."
