Socar "Last Year’s Total Driving Distance 480 Million km... Equivalent to 12,000 Earth Circumferences"

It was confirmed that Socar members drove approximately 480 million kilometers last year.

On the 3rd, Socar analyzed data from December 2023 to November last year and found that 10 million Socar members drove about 480 million kilometers during that period. This distance is equivalent to circling the Earth about 12,000 times or driving around the outskirts of South Korea about 106,000 times.

The member with the highest usage used car sharing a total of 431 times. This means they used Socar more than once a day every day for a year. The member who rented the most diverse types of vehicles used 39 different models, including electric cars, imported cars, and camping cars.

Last year, the most used vehicle model by Socar members was the The New Avante CN7. It is known for its reasonable price and excellent fuel efficiency.

People in their 20s, who seek economical mobility, preferred the reasonably priced The New Avante CN7; those in their 30s and 40s, who often travel with family, favored the multi-passenger vehicle Carnival KA4 Prestige; and those in their 50s with greater economic power preferred the luxury sedan The New Grandeur.

Reflecting consumer needs, the imported car lineup was expanded to include models such as the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, resulting in a monthly average increase of about 14% in imported car usage and about 15% in driving distance.

The figures for various forms of car sharing usage were also notable. The member who used the one-way service the most last year used it 221 times. One-way is Socar’s car sharing service that allows returning the vehicle to a different location from the rental spot. Due to its accessibility and convenience, usage across all age groups more than doubled in the first half of last year compared to the previous year. The member who used the ‘Bureum’ service, which allows renting a car at a desired location such as in front of one’s home or near the office outside of Socar zones, used it a total of 171 times.

Data on foreign tourist usage was also disclosed. The country that used Socar’s car sharing the most among overseas users last year was Singapore. Taiwan ranked second, and Malaysia third, highlighting the prominent use of Socar by Asian countries. In August last year, Socar introduced its car sharing service for foreign visitors to Korea for the first time on Jeju Island. This year, the service area will be expanded, and a global version of the Socar application will be separately developed in the future.

Socar’s online parking platform, Modu’s Parking Lot, saw transaction amounts increase by 25% compared to the same period last year, surpassing 50 billion won. The most popular parking pass was the same-day pass, which allows use for up to 24 hours on the day of purchase. Time passes and night passes, which allow economical parking at desired times, ranked second and third respectively. The most popular parking areas within Seoul were confirmed to be Mapo-gu, Jongno-gu, and Seocho-gu in that order.

A Socar official stated, "This year, we will do our best to enhance customized services for segmented mobility demands and provide innovative mobility experiences."
