Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it will newly launch a ‘Record Information Service’ for district administrative history records to share the rich local history with residents.

The ‘District Administrative History Records Record Information Service’ is an information provision service that digitizes and provides the rich history of Seongdong-gu so that anyone can easily understand the changes in Seongdong-gu, marking the 80th anniversary since the establishment of Seongdong-gu with the implementation of the district system in 1943. It consists of ‘Archive Collected Records’ and ‘Photo Record Contents.’

First, the ‘Archive Collected Records’ include historically valuable materials such as the Gazette of the Governor-General of Korea related to the district’s first launch and the Gazette of the Seoul Special City established by the US military government after liberation, playing an important role in deeply understanding the development process of Seongdong-gu.

Various materials collected from residents are also included. In particular, cadastral maps surveyed in 1921 and 1926 collected from residents of Oksu-dong clearly show the historical changes in the topography of Seongdong-gu connected to daily life.

The ‘Photo Record Contents’ contain various photos that visually show the changes in Seongdong-gu at a glance. In addition to detailed descriptions of preliminary investigations and research results on the collected photo materials, information on key figures such as former Seoul mayors and Seongdong-gu mayors is also reflected, allowing a vivid understanding of the historical context of Seongdong-gu.

The district expects that this ‘Record Information Service’ will provide abundant historical materials helpful to residents as well as researchers in related fields, and plans to further enhance understanding and interest in local history in the future.

Furthermore, the district plans to continuously update and reinforce the service by collecting additional historical materials in cooperation with residents, academia, and various domestic and international institutions.
