Special Local Tax and Special Grants, 15 Billion Won Budget Secured for 22 Projects... 4.6 Billion Increase Compared to Last Year
Focus on Urgent and Safety Projects Including Installation of Protective Fences, Safe School Routes, and Library Construction
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it secured 15 billion KRW in special grants and other funds in the second half of last year, and will focus all efforts on resolving residents' long-standing projects and expanding safety nets in daily life in the new year.
During the second half of 2024, the district actively worked with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Seoul Metropolitan Government to secure funding, resulting in a total of 15 billion KRW in special grants and special adjustment grants for 22 projects. This amount is approximately 4.6 billion KRW more than the 10.4 billion KRW secured for 22 projects in the second half of 2023.
This reflects the district’s commitment to actively utilizing external resources to ensure fiscal soundness and realize stronger and more sustainable welfare, achieved through active participation in public contests and close cooperation with the government and Seoul city.
The received special grants and other funds will be used for various urgent projects such as building disaster and accident prevention infrastructure, expanding daily safety nets, improving resident convenience, and strengthening resident safety.
In particular, the district will focus on robust welfare for socially vulnerable groups such as children and people with disabilities, and securing safety in residents’ daily lives. Additionally, it plans to enhance urban dignity and residents’ quality of life by expanding welfare, cultural, and leisure infrastructure.
The main contents of the special grants include ▲700 million KRW for Yeouido Brighton Library ▲300 million KRW for upgrading bicycle traffic safety experience facilities ▲300 million KRW for new installation of CCTV for crime prevention ▲700 million KRW for creating safe school routes in children protection zones, with the primary projects aimed at crime prevention, safety net construction, and establishing living infrastructure for residents.
Moreover, the district secured special adjustment grants for eliminating safety blind spots, creating cultural and leisure facilities, and providing more comprehensive welfare for vulnerable groups. Specifically, these include ▲1.3 billion KRW for establishing Seoul-style screen park golf courses ▲1.2 billion KRW for renovating aging facilities in Jamae and Singil neighborhood parks ▲1.2 billion KRW for disaster prevention and rest plaza maintenance at Anyangcheon and Dorimcheon streams ▲1.7 billion KRW for pothole repairs and expanding automatic snow removal ▲500 million KRW for replacing unmanned information terminals to provide convenience for people with disabilities.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We will devote all efforts to advancing projects funded by special grants and others to improve the safety, welfare, culture, and leisure levels of the local community so that residents can feel the changes.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to secure various resources to firmly lay the cornerstone for a great transformation, looking ahead to Yeongdeungpo’s next 100 years.”
