National Tax Service Extends Payment Deadlines for VAT and Income Tax by 2 Years for Jeju Air Disaster Victims and Bereaved Families by Official Authority Kang Min-su, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, is paying his respects at the joint memorial altar set up at Sejong City Hall on the 2nd.

First, taxpayers in the special disaster area (Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do), who are facing business difficulties due to the Jeju Air passenger plane accident, can apply for an extension of up to two years for the payment deadlines of value-added tax, corporate tax, and comprehensive income tax. For national taxes already assessed, an extension of up to two years for the payment deadline can also be requested. Additionally, if there are current arrears, taxpayers can apply for a postponement of seizure and sale of seized property for up to two years.

Refunds will be paid early. The NTS plans to pay as early as possible the confirmed value-added tax refunds for the second term of 2024 for eligible taxpayers, including the bereaved families of victims and businesses located in the special disaster area such as Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do. Furthermore, when selecting subjects for verification of value-added tax, comprehensive income tax, and corporate tax filings conducted in the first half of 2025, victims and bereaved families will be excluded. Requests for deferral or suspension by taxpayers under tax investigation or currently being investigated will be actively reviewed.

In particular, for the victims and bereaved families of this accident, not only will the payment deadlines be extended, but the filing deadline for the confirmed value-added tax for the second term of 2024 will also be extended. The NTS will automatically extend the payment deadlines once the list of victims and bereaved families is finalized and will provide maximum consultation services regarding inheritance procedures and inheritance tax filings.

Kang Min-su, Commissioner of the NTS, who paid respects at the joint memorial altar set up at Sejong City Hall on the day, said, "The NTS will do its best to swiftly resolve the accident and support the victims and bereaved families."
