Gyeongbuk's First Residential Welfare Center Established... Leading the Way in Enhancing Housing Welfare

Pohang City has achieved the designation of the three new industries?secondary batteries, hydrogen, and bio?as specialized complexes, and is accelerating efforts to improve the living conditions for incoming youth and workers.

Last year, the city established the ‘Housing Policy Team’ to create an environment where talent gathers and people want to live, and has been promoting various public housing projects.

Starting with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s welfare housing construction project for the elderly selected in the second half of 2023, the city is pursuing public housing supply through various methods such as ▲the selection of Jangseong-dong job-linked support housing, ▲construction of youth stepping-stone housing, and ▲re-leasing of public housing owned by LH.

In December last year, young people began moving into ‘Youth Stepping-Stone Housing Units 1 and 2,’ and this year, the city plans to expand public housing supply by promoting various projects such as creating a detached housing complex for young people returning to farming and rural areas.

Additionally, the city is striving to realize seamless housing welfare by supporting newlywed couples’ rental deposit interest, upgrading housing for vulnerable groups, and providing moving expenses for those in inadequate housing. This year, Pohang will take the lead in enhancing housing welfare by establishing the first Housing Welfare Center in Gyeongbuk Province.

A Pohang city official stated, “We will do our best to build a housing growth ladder so that local talents can stay in the region,” and added, “We hope that by providing comfortable residential spaces for workers, a virtuous cycle structure will be established where another quality job can be created.”
