Hanam City 2025 Opening Ceremony Held

Promotion of Three Major Development Projects: Camp Colbern, K-Star World, and Gyosan New Town
Lee Hyun-jae, Mayor of Hanam City, stated at the ‘2025 Joint New Year Ceremony’ held on the 2nd, “No matter how difficult the task, if we continuously strive together, we can surely achieve it with the determination of Mabuwichim (磨斧爲針). Let us all unite and devote our full efforts to building a self-sufficient city of 500,000 residents.”

At the ceremony held in the main auditorium of the city hall annex, attended by about 300 people including city hall employees and executives of Hanam Urban Corporation and Hanam Cultural Foundation, Mayor Lee said, “Let us work with one heart to succeed in the three major development projects and enrich the lives of our citizens.”
On this day, Mayor Lee introduced four core visions pursued together with city-affiliated organizations to overcome the challenges and tasks facing Hanam City and to grow into a sustainable self-sufficient city.
Mayor Lee said, “Together with Hanam Urban Corporation, we will successfully promote the three major development projects: ‘Camp Colbern,’ ‘K-Star World,’ and ‘Gyosan New Town,’ presenting the vision of a self-sufficient city with 500,000 residents.” He added, “Also, in collaboration with Hanam Cultural Foundation, we will expand the ‘STAGE Hanam Busking’ performances to the Wirye and Gam-il areas, broadening the cultural and artistic base that enriches citizens’ lives.”
He continued, “Together with Hanam Volunteer Center, we will realize warm companionship with citizens by simultaneously expanding the quantity and improving the quality of volunteer activities.” He also stated, “In cooperation with Hanam Education Foundation, we will upgrade career and academic advancement projects to nurture future talents and strive to establish Hanam as a premium education city.”
Lastly, Mayor Lee expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the efforts of public officials, we were able to achieve excellent results in various fields despite many difficulties.”
He added, “Reflecting on the lessons learned from last year’s visit to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, this year we will strengthen the system to ensure fairer performance evaluations for hardworking public officials.”
Mayor Lee also urged, “Let all 1,100 public officials and all invested and affiliated institutions unite their strength to create a year of shared challenges and growth. I earnestly ask everyone to do their best in their respective positions so that 2025 can be a year when our efforts bear fruit.”
Furthermore, before the ceremony, Mayor Lee visited the Changwoo-dong waste transfer station to encourage and express gratitude to sanitation workers. At the site, he said, “I deeply appreciate your hard work in making Hanam City clean,” encouraging the staff.
He then attended the New Year memorial ceremony held at the Geomdansan Memorial Tower. The ceremony was attended by about 100 people, including National Assembly member Choo Mi-ae, Hanam City Council Chairman Geum Gwang-yeon, city and provincial council members, and nine heads of veterans’ organizations including Woo Seung-won, head of the Hanam branch of the Gyeonggi Province chapter of the Republic of Korea War Veterans Association, along with veterans members.
Honoring the spirits of the patriotic martyrs and national heroes, Mayor Lee said, “We will inherit the noble spirit of those who devoted and sacrificed for the nation and the people, and do our best to make Hanam City a more desirable place to live.” He added, “We will also continue to strive for the healthy and happy lives of national merit recipients and their families.”
