Iksan Expands Eligibility for Didim Seed Savings Account

Children Aged 0-17 in Second-Lowest Income Households

Iksan City in North Jeolla Province is significantly expanding the eligibility for the Didim Seed Savings Account to strengthen support for children from vulnerable groups.

According to Iksan City on the 2nd, the eligibility for the Didim Seed Savings Account has been expanded from children aged 0 to 17 in households with 50% or less of the median income (recipients of livelihood, medical, housing, or educational benefits) to also include children aged 0 to 17 in households just above the basic living security level.

Last year, the city supported approximately 1,950 children with about 1.75885 billion KRW, and with this expansion of eligibility, the number of beneficiary children is expected to increase by around 700.

The Didim Seed Savings Account is a program designed to help children from low-income families build assets, so they can prepare the initial funds needed for higher education, employment, or securing housing as they enter society.

If a child saves a certain amount each month with the help of a guardian or sponsor until the age of 18, the government and local government will match up to twice the amount saved, within a limit of 100,000 KRW per month. For example, if 50,000 KRW is saved, an additional 100,000 KRW in support is added, resulting in a total of 150,000 KRW saved.

Applications for the Didim Seed Savings Account can be made online through Bokjiro, or in person at the local administrative welfare center.

A city official stated, "With this expansion of the Didim Seed Savings Account eligibility, we expect to provide a stronger foundation for vulnerable children to enter society," and added, "We will continue to carry out responsible administration so that children in need of protection receive appropriate support and grow into healthy members of society."
