Suncheon City Enrolls All Citizens in 'Citizen Safety Insurance'

A More Comprehensive 'Social Safety Net'
Enhanced Efficiency Through Integrated Operation

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 2nd that it has enrolled in the Citizen Safety Insurance for 2025 to ensure the stability of citizens' daily lives in the event of unexpected disasters and accidents.

This year's Citizen Safety Insurance has improved efficiency by integrating the previously separate management of "Citizen Safety Insurance," "Bicycle Insurance," and "Onnuri Public Bicycle Insurance," thereby streamlining administration and simplifying the insurance claim process. As a result, citizens can now access insurance benefits more easily, and the city has saved approximately 120 million KRW in budget through this integrated approach.

The Citizen Safety Insurance covers all residents registered in Suncheon City (including registered foreign nationals), with the city government fully covering the insurance premiums.

There is no separate enrollment process; all citizens registered in Suncheon City are automatically enrolled, and coverage is automatically canceled upon moving out. The contract period runs from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.

The 2025 Citizen Safety Insurance consists of a total of 10 coverage items, with a new addition this year: "Medical Expenses for Injuries to Children While Walking in Traffic Accidents." This new item is designed to provide practical medical support for children injured in traffic accidents.

Additionally, starting this year, duplicate compensation will no longer be possible under the injury medical expense support category. This adjustment aims to prevent multiple claims for the same accident under different insurance items, ensuring more efficient use of insurance funds.

A city official stated, "With the expansion of coverage items and integrated management, this year's Citizen Safety Insurance offers a more systematic and practical compensation system. In particular, by preventing duplicate compensation, we will manage insurance funds more efficiently so that more citizens can receive meaningful benefits."
