Jeongeup City Cracks Down on Illegal Distribution of 'Jeongeup Love Gift Certificates' at Affiliated Stores

Misconduct Confirmed at Two Companies

Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province conducted an intensive crackdown on fraudulent distribution practices among Jeongeup Sarang Gift Certificate affiliated stores from November 18 to December 26.


According to the city on the 2nd, this crackdown utilized the Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corporation's "Suspicious Transaction Detection System" to extract transactions suspected of fraudulent distribution, followed by on-site investigations at the relevant affiliated stores.

As a result of closely investigating the distribution status of 34 out of 529 affiliated stores extracted by the Suspicious Transaction Detection System, fraudulent distribution practices were confirmed at two businesses.


Accordingly, these businesses were subjected to fines and cancellation of their affiliate registrations, and five businesses deemed to have significant scale and severity of fraudulent distribution were referred to the local police for investigation.


The city plans to conduct regular crackdowns on fraudulent distribution of Jeongeup Sarang Gift Certificates in accordance with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's nationwide crackdown plan, and will strengthen monitoring of the gift certificate payment system to establish a thorough crackdown system that prevents fraudulent transactions.


A city official stated, "We will take strict action in accordance with the law and principles against cases where the purpose of the Jeongeup Sarang Gift Certificate is exploited for unjust gain," and added, "We will make further efforts so that local currency can contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
