[Aircraft Crash] First Funeral for Victims Held

On the fifth day after the Jeju Air disaster, the first funeral for a victim was held on the 2nd.

That morning, a funeral ceremony for Mr. A was held at a funeral hall in Gwangju.

Among the 179 deceased, Mr. A's body was recovered in a relatively intact state, allowing the bereaved family to hold a funeral starting from the 30th of last month.

In the afternoon, a funeral is scheduled for Mr. B (45), a Thai national who was returning to Korea after visiting his hometown when the accident occurred.

So far, including Mr. A and Mr. B, the remains of 21 victims have been returned to their families. Of these, funerals for nine are currently underway.

The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced the previous day that the identities of all the deceased had been confirmed and that the bodies would be handed over to the bereaved families.

They are also considering holding a joint funeral for remaining body parts, which are identified through DNA testing after the main body has been returned to the families.
