Box Office Performance on the First Day of the New Year
The movie 'Harbin,' depicting the Harbin incident of independence activist Ahn Jung-geun, topped the box office on New Year's Day.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticket sales network on the 2nd, 'Harbin' attracted 339,425 viewers on January 1st, a public holiday, securing the number one spot at the box office. Its revenue share was 41.6%. Since its release on December 24th, it has recorded a cumulative audience of 3,094,690.
'Harbin' reached 1 million viewers on its second day, 2 million on its fifth day, and surpassed 3 million cumulative viewers on the ninth day, January 1st. The film portrays the operation by Ahn Jung-geun and the independence army to assassinate Ito Hirobumi, the Resident-General of Korea, in Harbin, China. Actor Hyun Bin plays Ahn Jung-geun, with Park Jung-min, Jo Woo-jin, Jeon Yeo-been, and Lee Dong-wook also starring. Directed by Woo Min-ho, known for films like 'Inside Men' (2015) and 'The Man Standing Next' (2020), and produced by Hive Media Corp, which also produced 'Spring in Seoul' (2023).
Released on December 31st, the film 'Bogota: Land of the Last Chance,' starring Song Joong-ki and directed by Kim Sung-je, attracted 92,932 viewers, ranking second. Over two days since its release, a total of 193,880 people have watched the film. 'Firefighter,' directed by Kwak Kyung-taek, followed in third place with 80,830 viewers.
Fourth place went to the animated film 'Super Sonic 3' (75,722 viewers), fifth to 'Pororo the Movie: The Great Sea Adventure' (58,756 viewers), and sixth to 'Mufasa: The Lion King' (41,725 viewers). The total number of moviegoers on that day was recorded at 827,552.
