"Delivery Comes Even on Weekends"... CJ Logistics Starts 7-Day Delivery Service

Applied to All Areas Except Some Bookstore and Mountainous Regions
Nationwide Expansion Planned... Delivery Workers' Welfare Also Enhanced

CJ Logistics will start 7-day-a-week delivery from the 5th. The e-commerce industry is also expected to be able to sell and deliver 7 days a week without building its own logistics system.

On the 2nd, CJ Logistics announced that it will begin 7-day delivery starting from the 5th. Accordingly, fresh food parcels, which were previously restricted from being accepted before Sundays or holidays due to concerns about spoilage, can now be ordered and received at any time.

Initially, 7-day delivery will begin in most major city, county, and district areas. However, some island and mountainous town and township areas with low delivery density are excluded. If 7-day delivery stabilizes and volume increases, it will be expanded nationwide. A CJ Logistics official explained, "This measure is to prevent overwork that may occur when delivery drivers responsible for holiday deliveries are assigned excessively large areas."

Along with 7-day delivery, delivery drivers will gradually expand to a 5-day workweek and receive additional compensation due to changes in work methods such as holiday delivery. Previously, CJ Logistics negotiated with the Agency Union and the CJ Logistics Headquarters of the National Delivery Workers' Union, stating that they would introduce a 5-day workweek without income reduction compared to the 6-day workweek. The CJ Logistics Headquarters of the Delivery Workers' Union prepared a tentative basic agreement including 7-day delivery and a 5-day workweek through a total of 10 negotiations from September 3rd to the 26th of last month. Subsequently, a general vote of union members was held on the 30th and 31st of the same month, with 94.3% approval.

Changes are also expected in the e-commerce market, which has slowed down since the COVID-19 situation. Holiday delivery, which was only possible on some platforms, can now be sold and delivered 7 days a week by e-commerce companies without building their own logistics systems.

Going forward, CJ Logistics plans to conduct various promotional events targeting e-commerce companies and consumers to activate 7-day delivery. They also plan to further expand welfare programs for delivery drivers to increase worker satisfaction.

Yoon Jin, CEO of CJ Logistics Korea Business Division, said, "With the popularization of 7-day delivery, consumer choices will expand, healthy competition will be triggered, and it will lead to the overall development of the e-commerce industry and increased consumer benefits. We will contribute to the development of the industrial ecosystem and innovate the paradigm of the logistics industry."
