Unmanned Payment Machines Completely Changed... Busan City Fully Introduces 'Barrier-Free' System

Mobile Payments Without Additional Fees Starting from the 7th

Payment of Local Taxes, Non-Tax Revenues, and Environmental Improvement Charges

The ‘barrier-free’ unmanned payment machines will be fully introduced at Busan City and district/county offices starting from the 7th.

Busan City (Mayor Park Hyung-jun) announced on the 2nd that it will officially operate ‘barrier-free (accessible) unmanned payment machines’ that are easy to use for the elderly and people with disabilities.

The city, in cooperation with Busan Bank, the city’s financial institution, replaced all old unmanned payment machines installed at the city and district/county offices with barrier-free unmanned payment machines to make it easier and more convenient for citizens to pay local taxes and non-tax revenues.

These payment machines are designed with a user-centered approach to enable vulnerable groups who have difficulty accessing information, such as the elderly, wheelchair users, people with visual or hearing impairments, and those with low vision, to conveniently pay their taxes. They provide various payment methods and a payment service without any fee burden.

They support various payment methods such as credit cards and mobile simple payments, with no usage fees at all.

Previously, unmanned payment machines had limitations such as not providing voice guidance for all visual information and requiring wheelchair users to turn their bodies sideways to use them in uncomfortable postures.

The newly introduced payment machines are designed to allow unrestricted use of payment services, featuring ▲a low operation panel and dedicated space for wheelchair users ▲a large screen for users with low vision ▲a braille keypad and earphone-connected voice guidance function for visually impaired users ▲and support for issuing mobile receipts.

Utilizing unmanned payment machines that handle about 190,000 payments annually, promotional videos about city administration are broadcast during unused hours to share various policies and major news of the city.

The tax items payable through the unmanned payment machines include ▲local taxes ▲non-tax revenues ▲environmental improvement charges. Users can scan a QR code or enter their resident registration number, business registration number, or corporate registration number to check the payment target and then conveniently pay by credit card.

Kim Kyung-tae, Director of the City Planning and Coordination Office, said, “We will continue to develop more convenient payment services reflecting the diverse needs of taxpayers.”
