Chungnam Governor Kim Tae-heum: "All-Out Efforts for Rescue Operations of Missing Persons in the West Seaho Accident"

On the 1st, Kim Taehoon, Governor of South Chungcheong Province, visited the Fishermen's Association Hall at Gudo Port in Palbong-myeon, Seosan City, which serves as the integrated situation room for the West Seaho capsizing accident. He stated, "We will make every effort to rescue the missing persons and seek active support measures for the deceased and their families."


He further emphasized, "Check the insurance status of the accident vessel and the entry situation of the bereaved families of foreign victims, and ensure thorough accident management through close cooperation among relevant agencies."


Governor Kim met with the families of the missing persons to explain the progress of the rescue operation and said, "We will continue the search until the missing persons are found."


The West Seaho capsized at around 6:26 p.m. on December 30 last year while transporting the captain, seven crew members, a 24-ton dump truck, and an 11-ton cargo crane from Udo, Seosan to Gudo Port.


As of 5 p.m. on the day of the accident, the captain and three crew members were found dead, and one person remains missing.


Two people, including the excavator and cargo crane operators, were rescued immediately after the accident, received treatment at the hospital, and returned home.


The province, together with the Coast Guard, fire department, and police, has deployed 587 personnel and 53 pieces of equipment to search for the missing person.
