The May organizations visited the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery to mark the New Year and pledged to do their utmost to overcome the national crisis and defend democracy.

The three official May 18 organizations (Association of Meritorious Persons, Association of the Injured, and Association of the Bereaved Families) and the May 18 Memorial Foundation held a joint New Year’s visit to the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery on the morning of the 1st. Afterward, they stated, "It was the dedication and sacrifice of the citizens who bravely stood up to the guns of the new military regime 45 years ago that allowed democracy to take root on this barren land. Recently, many people are suffering and grieving due to the national crisis and the tragic Jeju Air disaster. We will do our best to prevent the recurrence of an unfortunate history where, instead of dreams and hope, the lives and freedom of the people are oppressed."

The organizations said, "We deeply empathize with this pain, and we promise to make every effort to overcome the national crisis and protect the safety and dignity of the people," adding, "We will wisely overcome this crisis and make 2025 the first year of restoring hope to the people and defending democracy."

This year, the May organizations set five key tasks: ▲Including the May 18 spirit in the Constitution’s preamble ▲Completing the truth-finding of May 18 and extending the statute of limitations ▲Eliminating discrimination and strengthening recognition for democratic and national merit recipients ▲Promoting the establishment of the May 18 Central Hall ▲Solidarity for the socially disadvantaged and education for future generations. They pledged to put these into action.

The organizations stated, "We will make the values of May 18 the constitutional foundation of the Republic of Korea, so that future generations can inherit the values of democracy and human rights," and added, "We send our deepest condolences to all those wounded by the Jeju Air disaster, and in the new year of Eulsanyeon, we will continue on the path of democracy without wavering, even in a world of chaos and crisis."
