A Media Reports "Filming Completed in Strict Secrecy"
Director Hwang and Lee Jung-jae Expressed Interest in DiCaprio in the Past
Netflix original 'Squid Game' Season 2 set a new record for maximum viewing hours, while Hollywood top star Leonardo DiCaprio denied rumors of appearing in 'Squid Game' Season 3.
On the 1st, an online entertainment media outlet reported that DiCaprio would make a surprise appearance in the upcoming 'Squid Game 3' scheduled for release this year. The outlet stated, "Filming was secretly completed in the United States last year," and added, "Due to concerns about spoilers, details such as the exact character remain under wraps." However, Netflix dismissed this as "an unfounded rumor."

Previously, Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director of the 'Squid Game' series, and lead actor Lee Jung-jae had expressed interest in DiCaprio. After becoming a global star following the release of 'Squid Game' Season 1 in 2021, Lee Jung-jae met DiCaprio at the '2021 LACMA Art+Film Gala' held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in November of that year. The following year, after 'Squid Game' won six Emmy Awards, Director Hwang revealed at a Korean press conference that when asked about the possibility of a Hollywood actor appearing, he said, "DiCaprio is a fan of 'Squid Game,' so we talked among ourselves about 'maybe we should propose it.'" In the same year, Lee Jung-jae, who won Best Actor at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG), responded "DiCaprio" when asked in an interview which American actor he would like to see in Season 2.
Released on the 26th of last month, 'Squid Game' Season 2 depicted the showdown between Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who vowed revenge and re-entered the game, and the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun), who opposes him. This season also serves as a stepping stone for the upcoming Season 3. Netflix's official site 'Netflix Top 10' reported that during the fourth week of December (23?29), 'Squid Game' Season 2 accumulated 488.7 million hours of viewing time. Despite mixed reactions and controversies, 'Squid Game' Season 2 set a new record for the most views during the premiere week on the non-English TV list in the fourth week of December, with 68 million views.
'Squid Game' Season 3 is scheduled to be released this year.
