Jin Gyo-hoon, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, Inspects Safety Management at Sunrise Viewing Sites

Jin Gyo-hoon, the mayor of Gangseo District Office in Seoul, visited the sunrise viewing spot at Gae-hwa Mountain on the 1st to inspect safety management and exchange New Year's greetings with residents. Although the sunrise event was canceled to mourn the victims who tragically lost their lives in the Muan Airport disaster, he visited the site in person in preparation for the large crowds expected.

Mayor Jin walked from the entrance to the summit of Gae-hwa Mountain, personally checking the residents' movement paths for any potholes or slippery areas. He carefully examined the appropriate placement of safety personnel, access control to dangerous areas, and the installation of nighttime guide lighting, while encouraging the officials involved.

The district focused on safety management, anticipating many residents to gather at sunrise. To ensure residents' safe sunrise viewing, about 70 safety personnel, including members of the autonomous crime prevention team, were deployed throughout the site.

In preparation for emergencies, a medical support team was established and ambulances were stationed. Collaborating with the Gangseo Police Station’s Security and Traffic Division, they worked to reduce residents' inconvenience caused by vehicle congestion and further strengthened on-site safety management. Although the police estimated that about 3,000 people visited Gae-hwa Mountain that day, not a single safety accident occurred.

Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “Although it is a national mourning period due to the aviation disaster, I came to the site for the safety and convenience of residents who want to see the New Year's sunrise. We are welcoming a New Year heavier in heart than ever before. I will tirelessly work towards residents' safety and livelihood stability so that the past pain turns into hope in the New Year.”
