Citizens Visit Yangsan Cheonseongsan for Sunrise in a Calm Atmosphere The sunrise at Cheonseongsan began at 7:26 AM, with the round sun's head starting to appear above the horizon of the East Sea as seen from the mountain summit.

The New Year's sunrise event held at the summit of Cheonseongsan in Yangsan, where the first sunrise on the Korean Peninsula can be seen, took place in a solemn atmosphere mourning the victims of the passenger plane disaster.

Yangsan City in Gyeongnam, observing the national mourning period, consulted with the organizing body, the Yangsan Lions Club, to cancel all event-type activities and conducted the ceremony mainly focused on praying for the well-being of citizens, while the rice cake soup sharing event proceeded as planned.

On that day, the sunrise at Cheonseongsan began at 7:26 a.m., with the round sun's head appearing above the horizon of the East Sea as seen from the mountain summit, and at 7:27 a.m., it fully rose, coloring the sky around Cheonseongsan red.

Unlike previous years, the atmosphere was calm due to the aftermath of the passenger plane disaster. Visitors to watch the sunrise mostly welcomed the first sunrise of 2025 quietly, making wishes or taking commemorative photos instead of cheering or applauding.

Mayor Na Dong-yeon said, “Although the year-end and New Year period is unsettled in many ways, I am confident that this will be a meaningful year in which we wisely overcome this crisis and draw a new future,” and added, “I wish that 2025 will be a happy year in which Yangsan City takes another leap forward and the hopes dreamed by our citizens come true.”
