Pocheon City Holds Workshop for Residents Affected by Military Noise

Mayor Baek Young-hyun: "We Will Do Our Best to Prepare Support Measures for Areas Surrounding Military Shooting Ranges"

Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 31st that it held the 2024 Military Noise Affected Area Residents Workshop, titled “Academic Forum for Activating Civil-Military Communication and Regional Development,” at the Pocheon Business Center Convention Hall on the 30th.

Provided by Pocheon City

About 200 residents from military noise-affected areas attended the workshop, which was moderated by Professor Yoo In-il of Daejin University. Experts from various fields, including Kang Tae-il, Chairman of the Pocheon Shooting Range Damage Committee, and Kim Hyun-jong, former commander of the 5th Corps, presented on diverse topics and engaged in open discussions.


The main presentations and discussions covered ▲Current status and conflicts of military facilities in the Pocheon area ▲Research on win-win measures related to the use of military training grounds ▲Formation of civil-government-military consensus and win-win strategies for regional development ▲Conflict management and public discourse regarding military facilities ▲The role of citizens in civil-government-military conflicts.


Additionally, to relieve the mental stress of residents suffering from military noise, a healing concert titled “A Happy World Comes When You Smile” was held, featuring broadcaster Eom Young-soo.


Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon said, “This event was an opportunity to ease the hardships of residents who have endured many sacrifices due to noise from military shooting ranges and airfields, and to seek civil-military coexistence measures. I hope this event provided residents with some peace of mind, even if only for a moment. We will continue to do our best to prepare practical support measures for the areas surrounding military shooting ranges.”
