Encouraging Weekly Visits to External Restaurants... Anticipated Boost to Local Businesses
As small business owners face increasing difficulties due to high inflation and economic slowdown leading to weakened consumer sentiment, Yangsan City is taking the lead in promoting consumption by designating a ‘Day for Using External Restaurants’ to stabilize livelihoods and revive the local economy.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak in 2021, Yangsan City in Gyeongnam has suspended the ‘Day for Using External Restaurants,’ but plans to resume it four times a month (every Wednesday) starting next year, encouraging employees to use local restaurants instead of the in-house cafeteria.
The city made this decision to revive the local economy despite the increased financial burden on employees and the inconvenience of going outside. It is expected that if employees voluntarily use local restaurants once a week, it will bring vitality to the local commercial district.
Mayor Na Dong-yeon stated, “Although employees may feel some burden as the ‘Day for Using External Restaurants’ resumes after four years, their voluntary participation will be a source of strength for small business owners and self-employed individuals,” and emphasized, “Please join in revitalizing the local commercial district by using nearby external restaurants rather than the in-house cafeteria.”
